America Coast to Coast

from New York to San Francisco

1st day: Arrival in N.Y.

Arrival at J.F.K. Airport, transfer with a shuttle-bus to the hotel "Milford Plaza".

2nd day: see New York City

Sightseeing-tour Manhattan, with the Staten Island Ferry to New Jersey and back (it's for free). You have a good view of Liberty Island and the Manhattan skyline.
From South-Manhattan on foot 8 km back to the hotel. Along the broadway, passing Wall Street and Trinity Church and various squares.
In the evening visit of the Empire State Building.

3rd day: New York-Washington D.C.

Via Philadelphia and Boston (both vital cities in the american independence-fight) and Baltimore to Washington, the capitol of the United States of America.

4th day: see Washington D.C.

Sightseeing-tour and viewing of our own. Parts of the tour include: Capitol, White House, The Mall with all the Smithsonien Museums, Lincoln-, Jefferson-, und Washington Memorial, Vietnam and Korea Memorial and Arlington Cemetery.

5th day: Washington D.C.-Niagara Falls

Through Maryland, Pennyslvania and New York to Niagara Falls, Canada.

6th day: Niagara Falls-Toronto

Viewing of the Niagara Falls, with "Journey behind the Falls" and the "Maid of the Mist"-boat tour. Then on to Toronto, where we visited the CN Tower.

7th day: Toronto-Detroit-Ann Arbor

Over Windsor back in the US to Detroit and the famous "Henry Ford Museum", which we visited.

8th day: Ann Arbor-Chicago

From Ann Arbor drive to Chicago. There we made a sightseeing-tour, where we've seen Sears Tower, Navy Pier and some other points of interest.

9th day: Chicago-Sioux Falls

Early waking and departure from hotel. This was the longest and farthest trip of this tour, 1050 km in one day to the west via Sioux City to Sioux Falls. To the west from Chicago the country is known as the "Great Plains" or another, maybe better word for it "Tornado Alley".

10th day: Sioux Falls-Rapid City (Lead)

From Sioux Falls to Mitchell, where we visited the Corn-Palace. Then via Missouri to Badlands NP. From there over Rapid City to Mount Rushmore.

11th day: Lead-Cody

Over Deadwood into Wyoming to the Devils Tower Monument. Then to Gilette, Sheridan and the Bighorn Mountains (Battle at Little Big Horn) till we reached Buffulo Bill city Cody.

12th day: Cody-West Yellowstone

Drive through Yellowstone NP, the first NP of the United States. Points of view: Old Faithful and the Old Faithful Inn, Norris Geyser Basin, Upper Geyser Basin, Mammoth Hot Springs and Fountain Paint Pods.

13th day: West Yellowstone-Salt Lake City

To south entrance of Yellowstone and from there to Grand Teton NP and to Jackson. Continue to Salt Lake City.

14th day: Salt Lake City-Bryce Canyon-Kanab

Via Interstate No.15 south to Bryce Canyon and from there to Kanab.

15 th day: Kanab-Monument Valley-Grand Canyon-Flagstaff

From Kanab to Monument Valley (a short detour, which was not in the original tour). Then back and over Cameron and Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon.

16th day: Flagstaff-Las Vegas

From Flagstaff a slight detour to the old Route 66 in Seligman. Then to the Hoover Dam at Lake Meat and from there to Las Vegas.

17th day: Las Vegas-Death Valley-Los Angeles

From Las Vegas over Shoshone to Death Valley (another detour). Then on to "Calico Ghost Town". Late afternoon arrival in Downtown L.A.

18th day: see Los Angeles

Sightseeing tour with stops at Hollywood Bowl and Sign, Mann's Chinese Theater & Walk of Fame, Rodeo Drive & Beverly Hills, Santa Monica Pier and drive through Century City via Avenue of the Stars (here we saw the famous twin towers from the TV-show "Remington Steele").
Drive to the Universal Studios and Studio tour.

19th day: Los Angeles-Pismo Beach

From L.A. to Santa Monica, then over Malibu to Santa Barbara. Lunch break in the danish town of Solvang. Then on to Pismo Beach.

20th day: Pismo Beach-San Francisco

Drive via Pacific Coast Highway No.1 to Monterey, where we visited the Bay Aquarium. Then via Interstate 101 to San Francisco. Sightseeing tour at night.

21st day: See San Francisco

In the morning a big sightseeing tour. Over Golden Gate Bridge to Sausolito. With the ferry to Fisherman's Wharf, from there we had the day for ourselves.

22nd day: End of the tour and flight back

In the morning a stroll to Union Square and to Powell- and Market Street. At 13:00 p.m. with a shuttle-bus to the airport. Check-in and departure to Amsterdam.
From there with a small plane to Duesseldorf.
